Immanuel

Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Immanuel literally means God-With-Us. This was to be the sign to the House of David and the kingdom of Judah; the birth of the coming Messiah.

It would be a miraculous birth, “...the virgin would conceive and bear a Son...” In the normal course of human events, what would take place would be impossible. Things that are impossible with man are possible with God! (Matthew 19:26).

Something entirely new would take place! God would be revealed in human flesh, living amongst mankind, God with us.

Matthew 1:20-23, (20)”...’Joseph, son Of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. (21) And she will bring forth a son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.’ (22) so all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: (23) ‘Behold the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,’ which is translated ‘God with us’.”

Jesus literally means God our Saviour. How wonderful that God the Saviour, in a flesh and blood human body, would live amidst his creation mankind; for the purpose of mankind’s redemption and salvation. What grace and love God was about to pour out on mankind!
