Unto us a Son is given

In my last blog post Immanuel we looked at the coming Immanuel
[ God-With-Us], in Isaiah 7:14

In Isaiah 9:6, 7 the prophet continues to tell us more of this coming One. (6)”For unto us a Child is born. Unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (7) Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end...”

The child born of the virgin is the coming Messiah; the One who is truly God and truly man. “Unto us a Son is given” The Son of God, Himself is the Son given. John 3:16, “for God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Luke 2:6, 7, (6)”So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. (7) And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger...”

In Luke 2:11 an angel of the Lord told the shepherds, “For there is born to you this day in the city of David, a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.”

The Son was given in Bethlehem so many years ago; we know Him as Jesus of Nazareth. His mission was to reveal God as Father, to show the love of God for mankind and to redeem men, women and children from the bondage of sin and death.

Next blog we will look at the names given in Isaiah 9:6.
